Plowshares Faculty Development Grants
The Lilly Plowshares Grant to strengthen peace studies across the curriculum at Manchester College provides grants up to $3500 for faculty research, course development, or teaching enrichment where they broadly relate to peace, justice, and reconciliation. Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.
To apply for a Plowshares faculty development grant, write a 2-3 page proposal addressing the following four points:
-
Describe your plan for professional development using Plowshares funds. Tell how you will relate peace and justice to your field of study in this experience. Include such information as how you plan to use the money, where you plan to go, or what conferences you plan to attend.
-
Tell how your plan will enrich your teaching, enhance your scholarship, or contribute to the development of a course.
-
Include a budget showing how the grant monies awarded to you will be spent.
-
Write a brief plan for implementing what you’ve learned in your teaching and/or scholarship.
You may request up to $3500. Submit proposals by October 1 for awards in January and Spring 2004 and by March 1 for awards in Summer and Fall 2004. The Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Plowshares Advisory Committee will review applications. Priority will be given to proposals that have lasting impact on teaching and scholarship and that advance issues of peace and justice broadly in the college curriculum.
