Plowshares Faculty Development Grants

The Lilly Plowshares Grant to strengthen peace studies across the curriculum at Goshen College provides grants up to $2000 for faculty research, course development, or teaching enrichment where they broadly relate to peace, justice, and reconciliation. Faculty in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

To apply for a Plowshares faculty development grant, write a 2-3 page proposal addressing the following four points:

  1. Describe your plan for professional development using Plowshares funds. Tell how you will relate peace and justice to your field of study in this experience. Include such information as how you plan to use the money, where you plan to go, or what conferences you plan to attend.

  2. Tell how your plan will enrich your teaching, enhance your scholarship, or contribute to the development of a course.

  3. Include a budget showing how the grant monies awarded to you will be spent.

  4. Write a brief plan for implementing what you’ve learned in your teaching and/or scholarship.

  5. Each grant recipient is responsible for submitting a 2-3 page report of how the grant has impacted his/her work. Please supply a deadline for when the reflection will be due. Failure to file a reflection may result in the loss of future funding to those persons which received the initial funding.

You may request up to $2000. Submit proposals to the Faculty Development Committee. Grant deadlines will be announced soon for the 2004-2005 academic year. Funding will continue until resources ($12,000) are depleted. Awards are competitive and applying does not guarantee funding. Priority will be given to proposals that have lasting impact on teaching and scholarship and that advance issues of peace and justice broadly in the college curriculum.

Address questions prior to submission to Dean Johnson, Director of Plowshares, deanjj@goshen.edu, ext. 7728
