Welcome to Earlham!

Douglas C. Bennett

At Earlham, our historic commitments to peace and social justice are informed by the distinctive perspectives of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). Reflecting our Quaker roots, the Earlham community is characterized by consensus-based decision-making, respect for persons, and the pursuit of truth, wherever that pursuit leads. Peacemaking is an important consideration in the daily interactions within our campus community and equally important as we seek to understand and change the present and future of our global community.

The Peace and Global Studies (PAGS) program is one of Earlham’s strongest and longest standing interdisciplinary programs. PAGS majors work in a variety of departments including, Sociology and Anthropology, History, Religion, Management, and the Sciences. The introductory PAGS courses are popular among non-majors as well, offering an introduction to issues of peace-making and social justice.

I am thrilled to be collaborating with Manchester and Goshen Colleges on the Plowshares Project, funded by Lilly Endowment, Inc. Working together, we have the opportunity to energize and strengthen the peace studies initiatives on our own campuses, throughout Indiana and the United States, and beyond.
